Blue Lozenge is looking for a communications and engagement specialist to join the team as an Account Manager.

You will be a qualified and experienced communication and engagement specialist, excellent at building strong client relationships and delivering an outstanding experience for our clients. You will have a sound understanding of the UK health sector and a passion for making a difference to the UK public and patients.

Areas of work will include strategy and planning, media relations, developing and delivering communication campaigns, events, content development, report writing, stakeholder engagement, internal communication and campaign evaluation.

Location We operate as a digital-first agency incorporating a workfromhome model within England. Staff are expected to attend a team day onsite in the South East once a month. 

What you’ll be doing

Client projects

  • Support the development of impactful and evidence-based communication, engagement and media relation plans and strategies for our clients 
  • Lead on the delivery of communication and engagement products for our clients including communication plans, press releases, press statements, press advisory notes, internal communication products including e-newsletters and C-suite communication, slide decks and reports 
  • Develop content for a range of different audiences (for example, healthcare professionals, patients and general public) and channels 
  • Perform research to support the development of client work  
  • Develop a deep understanding of our clients to ensure their communication and engagement objectives are met  
  • Keep up-to-date with health and care industry news and policy developments to monitor issues and the external environment to proactively provide intelligence and recommendations to clients 
  • Measure and evaluate our work to help demonstrate the value of the work we do and identify constant opportunities for improvement 

Client management:

  • Manage the day-to-day running of client accounts, projects and campaigns 
  • Produce accurate copy and ensure all client correspondence is well-written, accurate, timely and relevant in tone 
  • Be curious and proactive in researching client needs, building strong relationships and responding quickly to client requests 
  • Schedule and lead client meetings and presentations, keeping them updated on project progress and risks, with support from the Account Director 
  • Travel to face-to-face client meetings where required 
  • Take responsibility for tracking projects and campaigns working within budgets in line with an agreed statement of works 
  • Actively participate in the briefing process for assigned work – interrogate the brief, and confirm understanding 
  • Ensure clarity on timelines, deadlines, and the availability of key people  
  • Prioritise workload accordingly and flag with account lead(s)/line manager at the earliest stage any potential barriers to successful project completion and suggest solutions 

Business development

  • Be aware of the commercial aspects of our business, understanding where you can add value 
  • Work with the team to identify and develop opportunities for growing business with existing clients  
  • Contribute to proposals with innovative and strategically sound ideas based on your knowledge and understanding of communications, the Blue Lozenge strategy, the client, and the broader landscape

Experience

  • You will have proven experience of working in a communications role, ideally 3-5 years either in-house or at an agency. (E) 
  • You will have proven experience of driving and delivering successful integrated communications campaigns to achieve impact and influence. (E) 
  • You will have proven project management experience of delivering high impact communications campaigns from conception to delivery and evaluation. You can proactively plan and deliver work and identify and act on risks and solutions (E) 
  • You will have experience and knowledge of the NHS, public sector or healthcare technology (D) 
  • Experience of writing for different audiences across diverse channels (E) 
  • Experience of planning and managing client projects / accounts (E) 
  • Experience of managing account budgets (D) 

Technical skills

  • You will be a high performing communications professional with experience of developing communications products such as communication and engagement plans, press releases, internal communications, social media posts, pitch decks and e-bulletins. (E) 
  • Good knowledge of social media channels, strategies and tools (E)   
  • Excellent writing, proofing and editing skills (E) 
  • You will be experienced and skilled at interpreting complex information to use in communication products (E) 
  • Excellent research skills, including use of the internet (E) 
  • You have strong presentation and communication skills, written and verbal (E) 
  • Capable in performing moderately complex tasks using standard software packages – MS Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint (E)
